July contest winners
WINTERSVILLE – The Upper Ohio Valley Camera Club has announced the winners of the July-themed contest “Colored.”
The thematic category winners were: First place, Michelle Stevens; second place, Karen Felix; and third place, (tie) Dianne Bannister and Dave Rees. The open category winners were: First place, (tie) Michelle Stevens and Karen Felix; second place, (tie) Tami Hosterman and Dave Rees; and third place, John Hanish. The winners in the special effects category were: First place, John Hanish; second place, Dave Rees; and third place, Michelle Stevens.
The Upper Ohio Valley Camera Club welcomes anyone interested in photography. All formats are welcome: medium, film, DSLR, hybrid, smartphone, bridge, compact digital, 360 and snapshot.
The next photo club meeting will be August 16 at 7 p.m. at Two Ridges Presbyterian Church, located at 1085 Canton Road, Wintersville.

Community garage sale
at East Springfield Center
EAST SPRINGFIELD – The East Springfield Recreation and Community Services Center will be hosting a community garage sale August 11-13 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Installation is free, but donations are appreciated. Food will be available.

Reunion of 65 years on September 1
STEUBENVILLE — The Steubenville High School Class of 1957 will hold their 65th anniversary reunion Sept. 1 from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Scaffidi restaurant in Steubenville.
The meeting offers an evening buffet, a casual afternoon and a cash bar. The cost is $35 per person. Checks can be mailed to Donna Cocumelli Lucas at 743 0xford Blvd., Steubenville OH 43952.
Ron Retzer Trio entertains
Four Seasons Senior Group
WEIRTON – The Four Seasons Seniors held their July meeting at Undo’s.
Tony LaRosa gave the opening prayer, followed by the pledge of allegiance and the song of “God bless America.”
Dinner was a picnic buffet, followed by music from the Ron Retzer Trio.
Committee reports and the reading of minutes are suspended.
Pat Beltrame won the draw 50-50. Undo’s gift cards went to Ron Fallart and Nancy Fridley. Gloria Rowland won the special attendance prize. The other winners were Tom Maxwell, Barb Cerra and Norma Yoho.
The next meeting will be on August 17.

The Boys from the Blocks cruise takes place in Amsterdam on Saturday
AMSTERDAM — The second annual Boys from the Blocks cruise will take place Saturday from 3-7 p.m. at Rogers Park in Amsterdam.
There is a $5 treatment entrance fee. The first 75 entries receive a dash plaque. There will be food trucks, a DJ, vendors, a Chinese auction, door prizes and a 50-50 raffle. All profits are donated to the Amsterdam Volunteer Fire Department and Police Department.
The rainy date is October 20 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. The fundraiser is in memory of John “Panic” Tiziani.
“From the garden to the pantry”
the series of workshops continues
NEW CUMBERLAND – The Hancock County Community Outreach Department will offer the second workshop of its “From the garden to the pantry” Food Preservation Series August 10, 4-8 p.m.
The workshop will take place at Camp 4-H Aura and will cover pressure canning, which is the safest method for low-acid foods, including meats and most vegetables. Participants will prepare and process green beans to take home, along with a canning information packet provided by CEOS and the WVU Hancock County Extension Office. The $15 fee covers the cost of all materials plus a light working lunch.
Since class sizes are limited to eight attendees, a $15 prepaid RSVP is required. Call the Hancock County Extension Office at (304) 564-3805 to reserve a spot and arrange payment.

CCHS Class of 1972 making plans for a 50 year reunion
STEUBENVILLE — Members of the Steubenville Catholic Central High School Class of 1972 will celebrate their 50-year class reunion on Sept. 24.
The event will take place at the Steubenville Country Club beginning at 6 p.m. Animation will be provided by Twice as Nice. Other activities related to the reunion are planned throughout the weekend.
Library, extension partner to provide IT help
WELLSBURG — The Brooke County Public Library has partnered with West Virginia University’s Extension Service to help anyone who needs help creating an email account, setting up a secure computer password, using PowerPoint and other computer applications and download e-books available through the library. .
A representative from WVU’s outreach department will be available from 11 a.m. to noon on August 15 in the library’s River Room. Walk-ins are welcome, but those who register, by calling (304) 737-1551 or visiting https://brookecountylibs.org/programming-registration, will be assisted first. Participants must bring their charged electronic device.
